December 16-January 5th, 2025
What an amazing weekend of racing in Canmore!! For those of you who were unable to join us, you were missed!! I apologize that I missed the last medal ceremony but congratulations to all the wapitis who won medals but mostly to everyone who put their heart and souls out there on the race course!! What a fun and grueling weekend of racing. I loved the sibling rivalries and gathering of past and current athletes. PARENTS- I cannot thank you ENOUGH for the driving gear, driving coaches at ungodly times in the morning, evenings, dealing with your exhausted athletes and all the cheering and support. Thank you everyone!! Athletes, please thank our coaches for their hard work, they put in a minimum of 6x more steps than you did each day and many, many more hours to bring you the great skis and support you all received this weekend!!! Canmore Nordic also wanted to thank you all for being so kind, respectful and grateful- well done team!!
This is a Christmas break/3 week blog so everyone can plan accordingly.

*regular practice times this week
Tuesday 17th: Classic skiing- just ski on your race wax. Let’s get in a great evening ski by moonlight and enjoy the fresh snow. It may be too cold for U12’s but watch the temperature! Please ensure you come and get your racing gear and take it home though!
Thursday 19th: CHRISTMAS PARTY!!! Woohoo!! The U12’s crew decided that we’re doing an unhealthy potluck of treats. Please if there’s nuts in it- just label it. I cannot recall if anyone is actually allergic… Bring a $10 item wrapped and we will have a gift exchange.
Saturday 21st: We will Classic Ski. A nice long-distance ski with some technique work. You may need to change your wax to the warmer temperatures.

Dec 23-29 there is no official practice occurring. Please get out for skis with your family and do some exploring or take your dog on the north trails.

*lots of time changes this week
Monday Dec 30: I will be doing some technique work and if you’re interested please sign yourself up for 30 minute practice with me. I’ll be out at the trails from 10-3pm. Sign yourself up for a timeslot via text (add your parents in) and you tell me what you want to work on. I find these short sessions super helpful for focusing on 1 or 2 specific things, then you can springboard into other technique work in future practices. The caveat of this though- is that you will then go for a. 45 minute ski after the session, to work on the specific technique and a bit at speed as well.
Tuesday Dec 31: Training will be in the afternoon- skate. From 1-3pm.
Wednesday Jan 1: We will have a race team new years day resolution ski. We will do timed laps of centre blue- how many can you do in 1.5 hours… Beat the coaches!! Classic 1-3pm
Thursday Jan 2: regular practice time 5:30-7 (I double checked that I wrote it down correctly this time) and we will be skate skiing.
Saturday Jan 4: 10-12 practice- classic and we’re starting to prepare for the upcoming races in Calgary! Let’s hope they get some snow!!
