Where has this month gone?! A HUGE congratulations to Aiden, Ella, Liam and Makena on their races at the Western Championships this past weekend in Whistler!!! WOWEEE way to represent Wapiti and Alberta!! Silvers and bronze medals, racing up and racing period in the heaps and heaps of snow that they had. A HUGE thank you to coach Shannon and Momma's Shelly and Liz for getting the athletes there and for racing SO well!! For the rest of you, great workout in the Eastlink this week- you guys worked hard and I truly hope that you were sore afterwards.:) I hope you enjoyed your weekend off! Now it's busy time!!
The weather is going to be awesome this week and with all the fresh new snow- we've got a lot of skiing to catch up on!! Please read the important notes below:
1. If you have qualified for the Arctic Winter Games team- please read your emails! There are important deadlines coming up.
2. If you are planning on racing in Prince George or Camrose, please book your hotels!! Camrose is slim pickings as of a few days ago! Prince George has many inexpensive options. :D Please ensure that when you are booking that there is a cancelation policy- this sport is so weather dependent, as this past week has taught us. Please mark on TeamSnap your intention of attending both races or not. This also helps with the planning.
3. JoAnn sent out a message via Teamsnap about Wapiti Nordic Race Team- planning to go to Norway in February 2021. This event is a racing/experiential/skiing/educational trip all in one. If you are even remotely interested in maybe, perhaps, sort of, going to Norway- please email JoAnn back and let her know. We will start a planning committee regarding this amazing opportunity but need people to be somewhat committed/interested first. Please respond to her NO LATER THAN JANUARY 31.
Tuesday: Classic- distance ski, be prepared to be away from the lodge the entire evening. Bring a water bottle and a headlamp (yes, Nigel- you will get burpies this time if you don't have it! ;))
Thursday: Skate- distance ski- see Tuesday's notes.
Saturday/Sunday: Calforex Cup Races- I hope that you're volunteering for this weekend!! If not, please email Liz and do some baking to sell and make money for the race team. This money pays for items such as wax, roller skis, travel AND our trip to Norway that we're planning.
*Training: Coach Shannon and Coach Theresa are able to take athletes out for a long 2 hours ski after the races- ie: around 2pm on Saturday. Please come prepared for a classic ski. Claire will be away this weekend as discussed in our September meeting.
