January 17-24, 2022.

What a crazy week ahead of us. We go from too cold to ski, to bring your swimsuit... I sure wish winter would figure out a nice median temperature...

Thank you to those athletes who were able to join me for the 1/2 day camp. We accomplished A LOT in those 4 hours. Well done everyone!

Important notes:

1. Red Deer registration closes earlier than normal and is a 3 day event (you do not have to race all three days). Friday skate distance; Saturday skate sprints and Sunday Classic Distance. See race notice here. Please register no later than Monday, January 24th on Zone4

2. Claire's generator will be in the US the weekend of the Red Deer event, does anyone have a generator that the team can borrow please? We will need this generator from Tuesday to the following Tuesday. Please email Claire directly if you're able to part with yours.

3. Claire has been asked to coach in Europe from Feb 1-14th and has accepted. Coaches Caroline, Doris, Shannon and Theresa will be left with many instructions and I have no worries at all leaving these very qualified coaches behind to hand out burpees and interval workouts! 😊 It still is not 100% certain that the events will run in Europe and so the team may end up being stuck with me after all. TBD. The blog will be updated prior to my departure and will encompass the two weeks that I'm away. Please ensure you read the details closely as there will be time changes and voluntoldism occurring while I'm away. Briefly: Biathlon are hosting a Calforex Cup race here in GP on February 5th/6th- the team is expected to volunteer for the morning of the 5th and coach Shannon will hold a practice later in the afternoon. If you're available to volunteer on the 6th, it would also be appreciated. The Duathlon looks like it will be held on Feb 12th and athletes are recommended to register for this fun event and it will be in replacement of practice.

4. Arctic Winter Games qualifiers will be emailed out. Just a heads up- age groups for Arctics will range from 2004-2010. If you are away at college or university next year, you can still qualify and attend the games in wake of them not occurring this season. If you have questions or concerns please don't hesitate to email Claire. Back-up qualifiers will be the Alberta Cup Races held in Edmonton on March 5 & 6th of THIS season. If you are hoping to attend the games next year (team of 22 athletes), please plan on attending this backup event. A more formal email will be coming out within the week.

Tuesday: Looks like it will be ❅too cold❄ to ski for the juniors- but check the forecast here at 4:00pm to be sure. Seniors dress warmly for a classic ski and pick your favourite route that you want to go on BEFORE practice starts: forest trails OR North trails. Coach Shannon will be going North and Coach Claire will be on the Forest Trails.

Thursday: Skate practice (and maybe tarps off Thursday at +4)- you're welcome Casty! Interval workout, bring water and layer your clothing! The trails will be fast and furious that day, which means you will be working hard, but won't really even notice. 😉

Saturday: 10-12- gear in the timing tower. Skate practice- away from the jackrabbits (North trails).
