January 24-30, 2022.

I'm pretty sure that things are grim out on the trails. This was sent to me today and I'm heartbroken. We have AMAZING trails and then this:

I'm only sharing this with you so that you can understand my terrible, no good, smad mood that I will be in this week. 💔 We're still going to try to ski though as it seems that it may start to freeze overnight this week. I apologize if this blog is on the spicy side. 😖

Tuesday: Seniors and Juniors: 2 groups:

Group 1: those racing in Red Deer will be prepping your skis for Red Deer races. You will then go for a ski on the revolutions (or rock skis if you own any) when you're done and go for a 💦slushing around💦, pretending to be super fast skiers on drowning water skis, ski. 😠

Group 2: You will show up with BIG smiles on your face to cheer me up and happily put on your rock skis or grab some revolutions and go for a 💦slushing around💦, pretending to be super fast skiers on drowning water skis, ski. 😠 Coach Doris will update us all on where we can ski and then she and Crawford will be up at 3am fixing it all. WHY can't we just have winter temps between -5 to -15?! 😡 Please keep the revolutions after your ski so that you can use them for the remainder of the week.

Thursday and Saturday: there will be no official practice as coaches will be away at the races in Red Deer. The temperatures are dropping slightly, so wherever we skied on Tuesday, I would recommend trying it out and doing zone 1 skis for both of these days. Connect with some teammates and get them to go with you, this makes it much more fun. Even bring a thermos of hot chocolate for yourself so you can sit outside and enjoy hot chocolate together on the trails. Have fun with it- but you must send coach Claire pictures of what you ended up doing. 😊

Red Deer:

Races start on Friday with the skate distance. Coach Shannon and I will be in the parking lot setting up early and testing wax as I was not able to get an extra day off of work. I will discuss the course with each athlete as I'm able to, in the morning. If you were able to get down to Red Deer the day before and pre-ski the course, please let both coaches know.

Team meetings will be via Zoom. Here's the link for these meetings that will be at 8:00pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. I hope it works this time. TeamSnap if there's any issues.

Saturday- Sprints are a full day of chaos and excitement. We will need all parent hands on deck for this fun event. U10-U8 usually race to completion in 1 fell swoop (I'm not sure if U12 is included)- so it's easier to plan your day around. Typically qualifiers occur in the morning to U12/14 and older athletes, then the U10-U8 groups go, then the heats run in the afternoon. I think we will run similarly to Canmore with 1 parent in the start/finish area and 1 herding after the races.

As we're waxing outdoors this weekend, please bring lots of changes of clothing and layers! Bring your own snacks and drinks and lunches. There's no indoor venue for purchasing products here. Sometimes the golf shop is opened, but I'm guessing that no athletes will be allowed inside. Awards will be via coaches again and all info and changes will be sent via TeamSnap.

See you all there!!
